Ah, thanks. What triggered my interest was one of the quality control websites reporting the new and old roads being very close together, but not being connected. :) In bona fide cases of this, they can be tagged noexit=yes like here: node/10255474724

When an object is demolished or removed in the real world, they can be tagged like this: way/1211078071 Keeping the old way and tagging it like this stops people remapping objects that were on older photos.

Just be careful with highway=* that are close together. With cases like this, as the footway is within a few metres of the roadway, the quality control services mark them as "Unconnected roads" that should probably be connected. If they should be connected, they can be marked as noexit=yes.
