over 2 years ago | I've corrected the address. Presumably the Marlow outlet is closed, so more work needed. (I may have a photo of this location from 6 years ago)
over 2 years ago | I reiterate: please use relevant changeset comments. Don't use "taginfo" or "wiki" as a source. Always say which tag you are changing. In a few years time what taginfo or the wiki say might be quite different, so it's not helpful.
over 2 years ago | Hi Willi, But you deleted the casino tag not the restaurant one. Given it has Casino in the name that was quite a clue. When mapped I think leisure=casino was quite popular, but someone retagged a lot a few years ago. Jerry
over 2 years ago | We were wondering about inscription which is the usual tag on memorials, even if it's not quite an inscription. Adding the info as a description or note is perhaps a bit less useful (and in practice adds nothing and takes away a bit from the original tag, which does clearly show what it is about). A simple query on the original changeset might have been a better way to tackle this. Jerry
almost 3 years ago | Hi Paul, Can you remember why you used maxcgwrating (or similar) on Mayfield Ave off Kenton parade in this changeset? Someone has 'regularised' the values & I suspect has lost something. J
almost 3 years ago | Ah, not sure I properly interpreted your original remarks. The original bridge_name tags (later, IMO incorrectly, synonymised to bridge:name) were definitely created to deal with the situation where the bridge has a name and the road has a name. People still often put the bridge name in the name tag on the highway, so I think retaining it on the way is important. If this name tag is moved to the man_made=bridge, then really it should just be name. :-)
almost 3 years ago | Once again using sensible changeset comment would help everyone. What is wrong with"Replacing addr:buildingnumber with more usual addr:housenumber"?
almost 3 years ago | Can you also use accurate changeset comments. In this you changed a craft tag. Taginfo is not an appropriate source tag, although something like Osmose or Keep Right might be. Given I have found several erroneous remote edits, I wanted to check other recent changesets of your which might also have impaired the accuracy of tagged objects.
almost 3 years ago | @pza; certainly not. bridge areas are for cosmetic purposes (& help show a single bridge exists when there are multiple carriageways): the bridge tags on roads/paths are, and have always been essential
almost 3 years ago | Reverted.
almost 3 years ago | Once again your "fix" is not a fix, but breaks the mapping.
almost 3 years ago | Do you actually look at the things you change? The tag in_memory might not be widely used (no doubt there is a more popular one), but this does not refer to a war memorial for which memorial:conflict is intended. If in doubt don't change things. It can make them worse. Jerry
almost 3 years ago | This is actually the head office so it would have been appropriate, but my intention was in creating the wiki data item was to support use as brand.
almost 3 years ago | Hi, It's not actually necessary, or desirable, to add names to paths which make up a route. We have route relations which do the same job. The reason is that most paths don't have a name, or if they do, it is different from the route name (as when the route goes along a named street). I appreciate you don't see the name on the main map on the OSM site, but there are lots of other places where this is shown (such as Waymarked Trails) which are much better suited for walkers. | 20067683 | almost 3 years ago | Hi Carol, These could probably do with review now that we have better buildings, as I don't think the archaelogical site tag fits. I noticed them awhile back when looking at node/2255503162. Unfortunately it's now over 30 years since I stayed here, so can't recollect if I noticed other vestiges in the wood. There were Red-throated Divers on the river though. Where there is an existing building it may be worth following what b-unicycling did for old creameries in Ireland (historic=creamery) and the same principle could apply in other areas where there are old mills such as Lancashire. I notice the one downstream is a flax mill (I'd rather assumed they were all jute). There were some interesting discussions on traces of flax growing in Brittany at French SotM in 2015 (old retting pits at the corners of fields etc). In summary, there are plenty of folk interested in this sort of thing and it's worth consolidating tagging approaches. Regards, Jerry aka SK53
almost 3 years ago | XC Newcastle -> Reading doesn't seem to exist anymore as a through train.
almost 3 years ago | Hi, I suspect you really want access=destination as access=private will mean that, say, Amazon delivery drivers & visitors won't be routed here. It's currently marked as a caravan park, but looks more likely to be a mobile home park. If the latter is true changing the area to landuse=residential with residential=mobile_home_park would be better. I notice all the buildings actually have an official property number as well (https://osm.mathmos.net/addresses/uprn/#17/51.8962/-2.1329) HTH, Jerry aka SK53
almost 3 years ago | Had to check why a Quercus was in leaf right now. Should have guessed who (and where) it was being mapped!
almost 3 years ago | It's better to mark unofficial paths with the following tags: informal=yes, trailblazed=no + appropriate visibility tags, than add a name which does not exist. I also note that most users of Hikr either grade this T3+ or T4 not T5, and that there is part with a cable which should be marked separately. The traverse Westgrat/Nordgrat or vice versa does seem pretty popular.
almost 3 years ago | Hi, Thanks for adding this, find it a bit amazing no-one had done it before. Technically The Kite was bounded by East Road, Maid's Causeway, Parkside, Parker St, and Emmanuel Road (hence the name). The Grafton Centre ripped the heart out of the old area. Will check a bit on current usage. Jerry aka SK53
