about 6 years ago | Laura Ashley looks to be shop=clothes given they are advertising a post there with "fashion & apparel" as the business area. Also location would suggest furniture/wallpaper a bit far fetched.
about 6 years ago | Dear Garmin User, Please do not do this. You will break lots and lots of things which real people really use. If you continue to do this I will need to report this to the Data Working Group. Please read all the pages on the wiki about the Irish Townlands project and you might realise this tagging is a consensus which has existed for many years. Yours, Jerry

about 6 years ago | Sorry, I wondered if I should have been more specific. There's limited use of barrier=lych_gate (see https://taginfo.openstreetmap.org/tags/barrier=lych_gate). I suspect most are mapped as gates, although as they are often war memorials historic=memorial sometimes applies (see way/371530695). It's certainly worth adding at least one of shelter_type=lych_gate (or lychgate), barrier=lych_gate, even if it only helps the next mapper. I was just wondering how many amenity=shelter objects we might have in the East Midlands, and how many were things other than bus stops. The location of this one therefore stood out.
about 6 years ago | I'd suggest using a lifecycle prefix on the climb as well as access=no.
about 6 years ago | Hi, I just wondered if this amenity=shelter (node/6311706089) is a church lych gate? Thanks, Jerry
about 6 years ago | Hi & welcome to OSM, Just looking at your edits because you commented on the marina/sailing club in Pwllweli. I'll respond separately to that: any local knowledge for Llŷn is very welcome as most mapping is done by visitors This complex looks like the whole area can be mapped as amenity=university, perhaps with operator=University of Sheffield. (Interesting addition, I was unaware that it existed, so peeked at their website https://www.sheffield.ac.uk/aps/about/awec-af-9-12-09). Regards, Jerry aka SK53
about 6 years ago | Like @DaveF I see no reason to add unnecessary access restrictions. Quite clearly from the presence of stiles alone this is a footpath, and if someone cycles on use it that doesn't change the position. I'm not going to re-map all local pavements (sidewalks) as cycleways because I've seen cyclists on them. In general the only reason to add such tags is to provide a positive over-ride on the defaults.
about 6 years ago | I've added the relevant buildings & now have a much better idea of what is what. Initial suggestions are to make the all the service roads access=destination, and make the N-S stretch to the E of the main house at Court St Lawrence access=private. I believe this section is also a public footpath so in time this access will need refining. You can re-add the bit of through driveway between Springfield Farm & Orchard House with the same tag. I'm assuming you want your guests there to arrive from the driveway to the N. To do this for an existing single road you need to cut it into pieces, Select a "node" point on the road, right mouse click and one of the icons is a little pair of scissors which splits the line ("way") into 2. The only fly in the ointment is that I bet your local postie uses the Court St Lawrence driveways as a cut-through. Adding lots of driveways is a relatively new thing (largely driven by logistics firms) but fortunately we've had relatively few cases like yours to date. On the plus side such cases enable us to push clearer guidelines as to best practice so that everyone gets the map & data they need. Jerry
about 6 years ago | Ah, thought as much. I'll have a closer look so I understand the actual arrangement on the ground: as an addicted mapper there are always other things to add. Once I've done that I'll probably make some further suggestions.
| 76008964 | about 6 years ago | Hi & welcome to OSM. I imagine this change has been made because you've experienced people thinking they can use your driveway to cross between the two minor roads. It is unfortunate that some apps which consume data from OSM treat service roads as routable for ordinary cars. However, these change may have an unanctipated effect. The driveway was added by an employee of Amazon Logistics. They add data to OSM to improve efficiency of delivery drivers, particularly in rural areas where post codes are less useful. Changing access to no may impact delivery services from Amazon. An alternative access type which ought to both keep rat-runners away & allow delivery driver routing would be access=destination. Also in principle just a short section of access=no should have the same effect as marking the whole driveway. If the reasons for the change are other than my speculation, you can of course ignore this message. One last thing, these discussions are public so if you want something more private OSM has a messaging system built in, or I have a gmail account SK53 dot osm. Best wishes, Jerry (aka SK53)

about 6 years ago | I wonder why you changed the Waterguard to real_ale yes. It was all keg when I visited, and many Sam Smith's pubs don't sell real ale.
about 6 years ago | As @goedegazelle points out license plate is American English & in OSM we use British English, which is licence. There are different words which the Americans choose to spell in the same way. I suspect these may be better mapped as plain car_parts with an appropriate subtag (product perhaps), unless they are really common (100s of examples in DE for instance).
about 6 years ago | Hmm, by changing Slab Square from highway=pedestrian to place=square you made it non-routable & changed the way it rendered. These are not synonyms of each other. I'm also not convinced that internet=wlan is a better tag than wifi=yes (not everything iD recommends is right).
over 6 years ago | Pretty sure the Domingo Pub is at #4 not #1. Checked as I passed because Maps.Me still had the Pizza place. Will double check in morning
over 6 years ago | HI Alison, Ah that's why you're doing buildings. Addresses are just generally useful for all consumers of OSM data (especially SatNavs & other routing apps), but can be hard work to collect for bigger places (I think we're about half way there in Nottingham, but 100% in Beeston, Stapleford area). I wouldn't want to distract you too much, but any which can be added easily (e.g. along a main road or first houses on streets off) often allow others to be deduced. However, Jacksdale looks like a reasonable sized area to cover quite quickly. I added a very small number on Portland Road in Selston a couple of years back. If you ever want to know more do have a regular meeting once a month on a Tuesday evening either in Nottingham or Derby (venue this month is notionally Nottingham, but may change to Sheffield).
over 6 years ago | Been meaning to thank you for tidying up my solar power mapping. I'm using multiple imagery layers & it's often too time-consuming to work out which layer is best aligned if the houses haven't already been mapped. I don't know if you are in a position to add any addresses, but these would be very useful. Regards, Jerry (aka SK53)

over 6 years ago | Fishmore is certainly not a town in this area. At a pinch it might be a neighbourhood. As I understand it there used to be a Fishmore Farm https://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/932956. As it causes issues for people living in the area (https://github.com/openstreetmap/Nominatim/issues/1486) I will remove the node pending clarification of a) its existence and b) its status.
over 6 years ago | Just what it says, a more general tag than churchyard (works for monasteries, non-Christian religions etc). Tthe widely used tag, particularly in Poland I believe, is just landuse=religious, but I think that misses a bit of context, e.g., when it's a monastery which is also a school. The tag was experimental & landuse=religious is established & rendered, so you can lose it at the same time as deleting park which is wrong. This is just lawns around a slightly odd modern church.
