Yes. I AM the "local community", and I've only added about two dozen buildings. If I accidentally create an overlap, I'll delete the least-best rendition of the building.
I'm looking at every building, aligning the ones that are crooked, deleting the false positives, and uploading about 100 buildings at a time. I've got another 10,000 to go. I should be done by the end of April.

I agree. People are too ready to delete things based on aerial photographs without regard for the original editor who went to the place, and added a feature because he saw it.

Did you know there's a mile marker right about here: node/211886641 ? Says "B 165".

38307391 about 9 years ago

I think the H&B ran closer to the B&A. Right here: way/453312113
You can see on the google aerials that it's a straight treeline. Less obvious on Bing. Needs field work to verify.

access=* clearly says that access=yes means that there is no legal restriction. So how do we get OSRM to stop routing cars over footways??

42109713 about 9 years ago

So how do we get OSRM fixed so it doesn't route a car over a footway?

I know the upper part is under construction. I don't know how it's supposed to connect to the lower part. Has it been completed to the trolley museum? Is it rail-with-trail the whole way?

32076622 over 9 years ago

When I hiked the KPRT last year, the trail only ran from North Street out to the point. It looks like you extended it. Has the trail been lengthened?

It didn't look like a public road on the bing aerials (which it had been marked as). I looked on Google Street View, and saw a gate and "no trespassing" signs.

OSMAnd was trying to route me around this part of I-787. The Wiki says, about Key:construction:

For minor road-works (where the road in question remains open), use construction=minor (and don't use highway=construction, but leave it at its default value).

You're quite right, I didn't notice that the relation was much larger. Fixed.

VT-30? Where? I don't see it.

I looked at the node. Yes, "bowling alley lots" don't end up with the tag very close to the house. However, 1) if you search for the housenumber and street, it will get you close enough to the house to be able to find it by looking at mailbox numbers, and 2) I'm pretty much the only person mapping anywhere north of the Adirondack Park, so 3) if you're willing to help clean up the data by driving around, great! If not, then I've made the judgement that having the data in my area is better than having no data at all.

They are centroids of parcels. When parcels are not convex, they end up about in the middle of the parcel. When parcels are nice and square and small, they end up exactly in the center, which is typically where the house is.

The data was hand-checked in the field, and is "very good".

This data was imported before there were any requirements to document or discuss imports. The data is in the public domain.

Serge, Amtrak says that it's a high speed route, so ... it IS a high speed route. If you know how Amtrak signs the NEC speeds, you should tell the rest of us, because I don't know.

Peanut Line trail parking? But the railbed isn't marked as a trail. To the west, the bridge over Mud Creek is out. To the east, the railbed goes across airport property.

It's only a "source" in the hearsay sense. No intellectual property is being copied.

28340407 almost 11 years ago

Oh, and to help you understand these changesets marked "railroad crossings", I am going through a list of NY crossings that I downloaded from the FRA website, one by one. There are 12K crossings and I'm on crossing 9000. Many of them are disused private crossings, which I am ignoring.

28340407 almost 11 years ago

That's why the bridge is marked "abandoned", not "dismantled". The bridge has been removed, but if you go there, you'll see that the abutments are still in place.

24692436 almost 11 years ago

Why do you say this is missing? It looks present on Bing, Bing birds-eye, and Google. The geometry of this way alone suggests that it shouldn't be missing.
