over 10 years ago | After thinking about this, I made the name tag "George L. Smith Elementary School" and removed the old_name tag. If the building gets repurposed for something else but still retains the sign for the old school, then the name can be moved to old_name. I also added the disused:amenity=school tag to indicate that this is no longer being used as a school.
over 10 years ago | I haven't heard back about this. Generally, we do not use all capital letters on names. These appear to be just a residential house and garage. I've removed the names on these buildings as the name can't be verified.
| 31269952 | over 10 years ago | I posted on my and there's some discussion there:

over 10 years ago | We shouldn't be adding duplicate data to the main OSM database on purpose. The "polygon dataset" you speak of is not something that is native the OSM data model, but something that was derived from OSM data. We shouldn't require duplicate data in the OSM database in order to help you weed out duplicate data in the dataset that you have derived from OSM data. Your application should be able to consider OSM data as a whole (Nodes, Ways, Relations). Is it worth posting this on an email list to get some more people to weigh in?
over 10 years ago | Hi, can you explain how you came up with the names "REDNECKVILLE" and "Leprechaun's Workshop"?
over 10 years ago | Yes, there will be some hardware stores in OSM as single Nodes and some as Closed-Way polygons. Additionally, there are Relation objects of type multipolygon which might be hardware stores (buildings with a courtyard or multiple buildings). The shop=hardware and contact info tags should be on either the Node, the Closed-Way, or the multipolygon Relation. It's bad practice to put the tags on more than one of these 3 options. We shouldn't be adding duplicate data into OSM on purpose just to facilitate the needs of a particular data consumer. You should be able to convert polygons to points to facilitate your processing of the data. By putting a Node with shop=hardware inside a Closed-Way with shop=hardware, you are basically saying that you have a hardware store contained within a hardware store, which is incorrect. In reality, there is only one hardware store here.
| 31269952 | over 10 years ago | Hi and welcome to OpenStreetMap. You placed a Node in the middle of a building here with tags on it for the A-Boy hardware store, but it turns out this information is already tagged on the building outline. Generally putting the tags on the building outline is considered the preferred approach and considered a higher level of detail. In any case, we want to avoid duplicate data where possible, see osm.wiki/One_feature,_one_OSM_element

over 10 years ago | Sounds good
over 10 years ago | Hi, why is the house at 2323 SE Creighton Ave named "Ducks and Bunnies"?
| 28892311 | over 10 years ago | I updated the map data around here. Based on the street signs I think it makes sense to have the road transition from Gibbs to 14th to Marquam Hill Road. The only odd thing is the house at 3326 SW Marquam Hill Road, which is only accessed via 13th Avenue:

over 10 years ago | I took a break in my bike ride over the weekend to walk around the area starting on SW Gibbs St walking from SW 12th Ave and continuing up the hill. Somewhere in the bend of the road there's a street sign which shows the "corner" of SW Gibbs St and SW 14th Ave. There are a few houses which actually have addresses on SW 14th Ave and some Water facilities which have addresses on their signs of "3423 SW 14th Avenue" and "SW 1th Avenue & SW Marquam Hill Road". When I get a chance later this week, I plan on editing this area in detail and I might change the exact point that the road transitions names.

over 10 years ago | Thanks for fixing this!
over 10 years ago | You've deleted the highway tags on a lot of these Ways. Consider reverting this chageset.
over 10 years ago | The house numbers west of SW Naito Parkway are actually supposed to have a leading zero. addr:housenumber=0205 instead of addr:housenumber=205.
over 10 years ago | Did you inadvertently create a coffee shop node inside an apartment building here? "not Inner Garden Cafe" doesn't sound like the actual name of a coffee shop.
over 10 years ago | Thanks for adding this pub to the map. I updated some of the tags on this to be in a standard format.
over 10 years ago | By "OSM user" I am talking about a person who contributes data to OpenStreetMap. Each user chooses a username which may or may not be their real name. I'll take a look at the changes you made and send you a more detailed message with more information.
over 10 years ago | Did you try contacting the OSM user who added the trails?
over 10 years ago | Hi, I did a bunch of the mapping around this former school. To best represent what is there now, I used the building=yes rather than building=school as it is no longer in use as a school. The former school grounds appear to be in use as a park, so these get leisure=park. Also, the name of the former school is still shown on the front of the building, so the old_name tag gets "George L. Smith Elementary School" instead of the using the name tag. Also, it is generally no advisable to use all capital letters in OpenStreetMap as you have done here. Does that make sense?
