I'm sorry this is unpleasant for you. When you say "turning into a massive thing", are you referring to the long responses? I'm just trying to answer points that you bring up. I'm not trying to deflect with non-answers. I'm not trying to go off on tangents. I'm just addressing the many points you are bringing up as best I can.

You say that I'm not answering a simple question. Is this the question you are referring to: "So what exactly did they add that was wrong information and why couldn't you have just corrected it instead of knee jerk deleting it and leaving this message."

Specifically, for Fischer Towing, it was the addr:street that was abbreviated. Yes, I know when you look at that single point, it seems petty. It looks "knee-jerk". But it really isn't and I know I'm having trouble convincing you of that fact. But step back and look at the thousands of edits that have been made and you can see a pattern. I can look at an entry and have a pretty good guess at the one particular SEO that this came from. How do I know this? Because I've called literally dozens of these companies and talked with them. They all use the same SEO. Most of them had never heard of OpenStreetMap. Some of them were even upset that they were being added to the map (especially service companies operating out of their home but not wanting customers to arrive at their door (i.e. rodent control)).

These actions have not been taken lightly. They come after studying the problem for over 6 months (and seeing reports of it being well over a year). The actions were passed by the DWG beforehand and have their approval. There have been discussions with the community and they (overwhelming) approve taking the problem on in this manner.

And we have, up until this point, been able to make any headway getting this SEO to stop what they are doing. Until now. I am finally in contact with the company and have productive discussions with a person there that owns the process and have gotten them to admit what they are doing and have promised to change their behavior. I have confidence that this problem will finally be solved this week.

A couple of points:
>someone adding their own business to the database isn't necessarily always a bad thing
* I never said it was. What makes you think this was someone adding their own business? Why didn't they respond to the deletion? 99.999% chance that it's because this is from an SEO company that has been incommunicado.
> It doesn't really matter if it's a "throw away" account either.
* It does actually. Being able to communicate with the company that is dumping this data *is* important. Otherwise we're going to be chasing them around for the next decade. Let's stop wasting our time and correct it at the source so that we can move onto bigger and better things instead of following them around and doing what they are supposed to do.
>why couldn't you have just corrected it instead of knee jerk deleting it and leaving this message
* Because leaving a message does no good. And, see previous point. We shouldn't be satisfied with high volume, low quality contributions.
>a lot "poor SEO meant to game the system" (whatever that means) is usually just ignorance as to how OSM works and not something more nefarious.
*gaming the system as in just spewing URLs into as many places as cheaply and quickly as possible to boost the ranks of the client paying you to get them listed higher on google. Call it nefarious. Call it ignorance. Either way, we want to correct the behavior.
>It's no wonder so many businesses are one time editors and never come back when people approach their mistakes like that.
* These are not one time editors. If you've studied the problem as much as I and others have, you'd realize that.
>I find it slightly ironic to that @PeanutButterWolf deleted that but left the clearly wrongly mapped quarry in the middle of the road right next to there. Seems like picking and choosing. Instead of actually caring about data quality.
* Yep, missed that one. I can't get them all. To say I don't care about data quality is not really a conclusion you should come to from that.
>It's not magically bad because it improves Google search results.
That is 100% true. I'm actually pro-SEO companies adding quality data to OSM and I have put in a LOT of time to help this particular company do right by OSM.

I'm hoping that we'll see some improvements on this issue real soon now. Stay tuned. It's been a long ride.
