I think that ED is not able to mark area-type features like water, forests etc (even if marking them as nodes is also OK)

And in my experience such notes are quite often simply wrong - and blindly trusting them is a mistake.

Likely you performed far more damaging edit, but people have not told you about about reverts or damage was not noticed.

It seems very dubious to me that this kind of editing would be overall beneficial.
