Changeset When Comment

I noticed that you changed the name of a segment of I-8 from Ocean Beach Freeway to Mission Valley Freeway. The official designation of Ocean Beach Freeway extends the name all the way to I-5. (See https://dot.ca.gov/-/media/dot-media/programs/research-innovation-system-information/documents/place-names/web-2020-named-freeways-final-a11y.pdf) Was there a reason that you switched the name west of I-5?

The name changes in this changeset contradict the published names at https://www.goldenacorncasino.com/. I have restored the correct names.

Hi Tyler. I know it's been a long time, but would you happen to know where you got the name for Manzanita Parkway? SanGIS has this as a continuation of Crestwood Road and the signage in street-level imagery at the I-8 interchange confirms that.

Oops. Looks like that comment was meant for a different changeset. This section road is either named "Thing Valley Road" according to USFS and USGS or "Desert View Road" according to SanGIS. There is no evidence to suggest that this road was ever named "Thunder Valley Road."

These name changes either contradict definitive sources (USGS, GNIS, USFS) or are unsubstantiated where definitive sources do not have names and there is no signage on the ground. I will be reverting the name changes. If definitive sources can be cited, the names may be restored.

This is a private road on private land. Although this road is recorded in SanGIS, no name for the road has been recorded. I have surveyed this location in person and there is no signage for this road. I'll be removing the name from this road, although the name could be restored if there is a definitive source for the name.

This road is still very clearly signed as Martin Luther King Junior Freeway, visible in street-level imagery and which I have surveyed firsthand. I have reverted this name change.

USGS Topo clearly has this peak as "Sheephead Mountain" as does the GNIS record. I have reverted this changeset.

USFS has this road clearly named "Sheephead Mountain Road" to match the local "Sheephead Mountain" peak. The change to "Spearhead Mountain Road" was erroneous and I have reverted it.

This section of road is either named "Thing Valley Road" (according to USFS and USGS) or "Desert View Road" (according to SanGIS). The USFS name is more likely to be correct as this road is managed by USFS. There is no evidence to support the fictitious name in the prior changeset so I have reverted the change.

Also, for what it's worth, I got a reply from Ranger Swartlander at the Redding BLM field office about the designated roads and trails on the OHV map that cross private land. BLM does indeed manage those roads and trails and they are open to public access. However, access to the private land off the trails is not permitted. So, the access conditions in the BLM PDF are what should be mapped for public access.

I think you've misunderstood. The only access conditions that apply in this area are the ones tagged on the highways themselves.

I'm optimistic that there will be a broader discussion among members of the OHV community about how to map areas like this, so we may have some broader community consensus soon.
