Changeset When Comment

Hi Gregory,

It is possible that a green field is farmland, or livestock seasonal, but is this at heart a difference in interpretation of tag definitions?

These are areas I cycle and drive through so I feel I do know what the areas are constituted of.

Following the wiki definition, I've been using evidence such as grazing animals in a field or the absence of tractor compaction to set landuse=meadow, rather than ploughed areas set landuse=farmland. My intention is to differentiate between patterns of arable and livestock cultivation.

I accept that not all individual fields have been created as individual fields, however the boundaries are in my mapping in the case where blocks of visually similar cultivation are a single polygon.

I feel my contribution speaks for itself as an improvement to the map, and as comment text is cold and rather prone to mis-interpretation, can I suggest moving a discussion on the best tagging strategy to talk-gb or tagging before making wholesale changes please?

Thanks,

James

Hi Mike,

This footpath has apparently been closed due to building works adjacent, with a diversionary path created nearby (note included on Way: 659069221). I couldn't see NCC PROW notices here (unlike the W-E section) so have not added lawfully diverted.
My thought was access=no would over-ride bicycle=yes, but as you point out this could be unclear.
Changed to bicycle=no; access=no as the footpath still exists on the ground and the NCC PROW map is as unmaintained as it ever is with no closure recorded.

TTFN,

James

Hi DanSink,

Communicating and collaborating with other OSM mappers is a big part of our community, so it's a shame not to have heard back from you.

Hi Dan Sink,

There's lots of help out there to explain how you can contribute to OSM - mistakes are part of learning, so here's a few links that might help:
osm.wiki/Good_practice

And just in case your interest in parks is linked to Pokémon GO...

Hi DanSink and welcome to OSM.

Can I ask if you meant to move a service road in a car park across two blocks of houses and into the middle of Lidl please?
node/4325392181

Can you fix this edit please?
If you need help, just ask.

Hi Nixon22,

As it was a nice day, I popped over with my GPSr and surveyed the new cycleway behind Lidl. The Council seems to be investing in this area with a new large playground - which is now mapped.
I've removed the duplicate area with a clashing name.
Hope this helps,

Hi Nixon22,

As it was a nice day, I popped over with my GPSr and surveyed the footpaths and added the detail of the 'The Crofton Mill Pit' tub at the NE entrance as:
historic=memorial
I've removed a few of the other tags as ele=3m and wheelchair=yes definitely don't apply here.
Hope this helps,

James

Hi AdamTaiit and welcome to OSM!

Thanks for adding new buildings and local detail the map - they make the area look a lot more friendly.

Can I offer a tip when using the iD editor?

After drawing a building you can use the 'S' key to square it up, which makes right-angles look even better:
S – straighten the selected line (possibly removing unaligned intermediate nodes), or square the corners of the selected area or closed line.

If you want to learn more, here is a tutorial:

Hi Samuel D Sanchez and welcome to OSM!

Thanks for adding a new street and houses to the map. Did you know you can also make it even easier to search in OSM for a specific address by adding extra tags to buildings, like 'addr:housenumber=69'

addr=*

Hi Drategoni Zero,

Welcome to OpenStreetMap!

Can you review your tag updates against the helpful information in the Wiki please?
osm.wiki/wiki/

Is this area of grass really a park?
Do you have any references to 'Cowpen Park' to support the change of tagging?

Your edit has clashed with another new contributor who has added a duplicate landuse=park calling this area 'South quay park' - which is it please?

Hi Nixon22,

Is this just an area of grass, or do you have any references to support changing this grassed area to another park?

Who mentioned a common?

Unless you are using several 'sock puppet' accounts and are confused with:

Is this area of disused land, and adjoining landscaped pit heap really a park?
Do you have any references to 'Crofton Park' to support the change of tagging from leisure=common please?

What artwork do you believe is here please?
The tag needs to be more specific, and not applied to a whole area:
artwork_type=*

Why have you added an elevation tag to a large area, which has a large pit heap hill in the SW side? This is certainly higher than 3m:
ele=*

OSM data is used my thousands of users world-wide so it is important that updates reflect what is really on the ground, and not just for Pokemon GO:

Hi Stephen,

As you have not responded and a large area is impacted by this changeset, I have reverted this change.
Keeping in contact with other mappers to collaboratively improve the map is a key part of OSM - please read the following guide:

Ah - looks like you got there first!
way/47290239/history#map=19/55.05333/-1.67476&layers=N

I can confirm this section is definitely NOT oneway=yes based on my own recent ground surveys.

Hi avalancha,

The oneway=yes tag was actually added by felix2426 as v4 back in 2014:
changeset/29445876

That said, I'd agree that this section is definitely NOT oneway=yes based on my own recent ground surveys.

I'll update the map right now...

As an aside, I would not refer to Google Streetview data as their copyright is wholly incompatible with OSM!

Thanks for spotting the error, and happy mapping!

Hi Stephen,

Are you aware that this change set has altered ALL of Monkseaton, Whitley Bay, and a chunk of Tynemouth into one very large park?
way/33003544/history

Can I suggest you revert back from leisure=park to landuse=residential?

Best regards,

Hi Mitch,

Welcome to OpenStreetMap,

Thanks for adding paths to the map.

Can I suggest that you join footpaths to nearby roads to allow navigation tools to route users please?
Extra tags such surface=paved can also help tools for walkers, cyclists and wheelchair users give better information.

Thanks,

James

Hi Mitch,

Welcome to OpenStreetMap!,

Can I ask why you deleted the record of the mineral line which used to connect to the West Cramlington Pit?
The cycle track is built on the trackbed, so the feature explains the geometry.

All changes are recorded in changesets, so it is easy to check that PeterEastern put this here, and discuss the background before removing the work of others:

Best regards,

James
