Happy for you to revert the changeset. I tried to install JOSM but it’s not signed for the latest Mac OSX so won’t let me install it.

The link you provided shows that the signed shared path along Woodbine Rd which runs north from Thompsons Rd. This shared path in not documented in OSM.
When I rode along Thompsons Rd there was no sign visible along (way/839517705) to indicate it was a shared way.

Hi Tony,
Acknowledge. Happy to revert changes myself but unsure how to check what ways were modified to revert.

Hi adamh
No issues. Seems we have gone full circle with this discussion on bike permissions on footpaths and vice versa.
I have been updating foothpaths to bicycle=no and there is still no consensus

Hi,
I verified this during a ride.
The two service roads in questions are thoroughfares within a private premises (factory) with gates at each end.

No problems

Hi Tony
I verified this when out cycling in the area. Sign was posted adjacent to entry.

Last time I checked exercise has always been a permitted reason to leave the house all through the pandemic.

Yes it included street level imagery.
There seems to be instances where by people create a paths with multiple segments/lines rather than one continuous segment/line. The majority of the path will have permission yes, however some of the smaller lines/segments that form that same path will permission no, despite being allowed to be ridden on.
Hope I’ve used the correct technical terminology to convey the message.

Hi,

I took part in a virtual ride event that went through these areas.
There were some minor inconsistencies of some of the tags of paths in the area that we rode hence were updated to suit.

Thanks Tonyf1

I have just subscribed to talk-au however I haven’t seen further discussion or I’m not sure how to post as I’d be keen to resolve this.

Hi Tonyfi,
In relation your comment, there has been significant discussion in the Melbourne Bikepath cycling community recently relating to permissions about types of paths than can be ridden.
Some members have also sought clarification from Vic Police on the rules. It has been made clear to the cycling community that unless there is specific signage to indicate that bikes are permitted, then bikes are not permitted.
These updates are important as a lot of the software and apps that cyclist use for course routing takes the shortest or fastest routes which could include illegal paths such as footpaths etc.
I hope that this clarifies your concern.

The path that is located between the front of a house or building and a road is a footpath and not a shared path, hence it has been corrected.

This has now been updated to remove bicycle=no

Thanks aharvey

I’m new to OSM, so still getting my head around how all the forum chat works. I can see and read all the discussions that are occurring but haven’t yet figured out how to post. Any help?

Hi Marc,

I hadn’t realised that notification had been going to my junk mail hence why wasn’t aware of comments on the change sets.

In response to the discussion on talk-au raised by Tonyf1, I note that in the State of Victoria, Australia it is illegal to ride a bike on a footpath unless it’s specifically signed. where as tonyf1 has said that there was no sign to indicate bikes weren’t permitted. This is not the case, as permission to ride a bike on path in Victoria is only permitted by exception.

I am simply correcting an error in the data.
I have changed commentary on changesets to indicate “ updates to cycling permissions to align with Victoria Road Regulations”

Hi Tony,
Upon further discussion with a friend who works there this is a private road. I haves updated tags accordingly.

Hi
The change to the powerline was accidental, apologies for the inconvenience.

I only updated one field bicycles =no as I know this to the case after speaking to a friend who works there.
This is a private facility hence believe the other access is incorrect and all other ma should be set to no/private.

Hi.
In case you weren’t aware, Victorian roads rules state that riding not a footpath is not permitted. Hence there does not need to be a sign to indicate no bikes.
The only exception apply to shared paths (bike and pedestrians) which are signed for use by bikes.

Hi.

Yes these are shared tracks used by pedestrians and cyclists.
