I am not sure if you are really talking about GPS tracks or if you called the OSM nodes/ways tracks. Those are two independent things.

If you do indeed mean GPS tracks, then the more the better. The Yahoo images actually are sometimes quite inaccurate (at least where I live) so good mapping must be done by multiple GPS tracks here.

Javascript wird für OSM benötigt, Java dagegen nicht.

Maybe an extension to the "align nodes in line" tool where you can fix certain nodes and have the others be put on their line would be possible.

There is a trick on how to get nice orthogonal buildings. Start with only one edge of the building (1 way with 2 nodes). Then select that way and use the "create Areas" tool (X). With more complex buildings you will have to remove some obsolete nodes in the end.

The area paint idea sounds awesome.

Most existing infrastructure, hardware and software is made for MPEG4 or WMV. Thus Ogg Theora would have been an extra effort.

Of course this would be a copyright violation if hagenaah has not gotten the explicit permission to do this.
