Hi there - just a note: Don't set the "access" tag to "no" (i.e. access=no) on a trail or road, unless the road is closed to all traffic! An 'access=no' tag supersedes all other access tags!
You effectively closed down the Appalachian Trail at the GA/NC state line where I'm currently mapping.

OMG - you took care of the 'disused:railway=rail' tags for me on the Murwillumbah rwy line! Thank you! That was a brainfart - only remembered after I had already gone past Byron Bay. Thx again!

Actually - Elaroo Rill was on the DCS basemap, but the 2 others were mentioned on a blog post referencing the 1:100,000 NATMAP for Penrith, and I confirmed their existence on geoscience.gov.au.
But yeah - that basemap IS great!

Mike - I suspect that trail is now a disused:highway - both ends obscured so hikers stay off it, but still a visible trail in the middle. I'm firmly in the "map what's there" camp, and not in the "NPS/USFS doesn't want this trail used so don't map it" club. *grin*
I agree - many of those fords are probably bridges or culverts. I usually map ford for paths unless I can see what's going on - sort of a 'fail-closed' approach.

On the last point - that's interesting. I've been bugging Mapbox about their water pipeline - waterways and water polygons are currently frozen, with months of changes unapplied. Supposedly they will have the new pipeline rev in mid-August.
Does Mapbox have a mapping team working on National Parks right now?

AGGGGHHHH! No excuse - I was in a hurry and did some sloppy tagging.
1) That was only supposed to apply to way/310456812. The Mill Creek Trail was routed along there, I can see a cutline that marks the trail, but there's no Strava traffic at all. I tagged the visibility before realizing that it was part of the arterial trail, and then forgot to take off that tag from the arterial.
2) Sloppy of me. Not sure why I did that at all.
Both issues are fixed.

Yep - agreed. We're really on the same team here! I appreciate what you're doing in RoMo - I've run into so much bad/sloppy mapping lately, it's refreshing to see someone who knows what they're doing!

Yes - the section is talking about bare 'highway=path' ways, and that explicitly tagging access is better than just a one-tag trail.
Look - I'm not removing any of your tags that you added (and for the record, I don't actually see that I removed tags from the Flat Top Trail) and you can tag away to your heart's delight. I'm just saying there are others that may remove tag bloat further down the line.
At least you're not one of the over-taggers that literally has 20 tags for a single trail.

And fyi, general consensus is that dirtbike and ATV trails should be tagged as track.
I know that's not always followed, but hey... it's OSM: Always on the verge of chaos!

First sentence of the wiki, emphasis mine:

highway=path is a generic path, either multi-use or unspecified usage, OPEN TO ALL NON-MOTORIZED VEHICLES and not intended for motorized vehicles unless tagged so separately.

If a trail is *meant* to be a walking trail, and other non-motorized use is discouraged but not explicitly allowed, you can tag 'foot=designated'.

Keep in mind the default access permissions that each kind of way allows. The 'highway=path' tag allows foot, horse and bicycle only, so if a trail does not allow one of those three, THEN you call it out with a tag. Anything other than those 3 is not allowed, so no need to tag it as such.

That's called overtagging, or "Tag Bloat". Ways tagged as 'path' by default allow foot traffic and don't allow motor vehicle traffic. It's like you adding 'motor_vehicle=yes' to an arterial road - it's not needed and an overuse of these kind of tags slows down the database.
Mapbox is actually starting to alert on tags like these as "Irrelevant Highway Tag", so those tags will probably just be removed again by someone else after you put them back.

I was actually searching for changes from both Bogotov and Yocomik in OSMCha and found some other junk. Fixed some of it.

I haven't used Overpass in a while - I'll have to dig back into it again to see if there's anything else that needs fixing.

I see you're still mapping - since this change is from 6 years ago I understand if your memory is blank on this... but you named a hiking/biking trail "Canl" (way/209973143). Any idea what the name was meant to be? Thanks in advance...
