Greetings!

There are two Savane villages - the first one is at the headwaters of the Rio Savane within Dondo District, the second is at the mouth of the river within the Cidade da Beira boundary.
Rio Savane is somewhat well-known, and is well mapped elsewhere, including on old JOG maps from the 1960's.
On this map (http://legacy.lib.utexas.edu/maps/jog/southern_africa/se-36-16-beira-mozambique.pdf) find -19.75/35.00 (-19º45' lat, 35º00' lon) to see the actual position of Rio Maria. It is a tidal river further to the SW, closer to Beira.

Hope that helps!

Apologies for the delay in replying. Too much going on...
Generally speaking, if the structure is too small to accommodate a prone human (2m x 2m or smaller), it shouldn't be mapped - ESPECIALLY for HOT engagements. I think you may have mapped a cow in one of your squares. The point being, when the object is that small, it can be just about anything!

Sorry I missed this comment when you gave it - not sure how I missed it.
As far as "South H St" goes, I was going off the original Spokane plat maps from 1895-1900. Found a great online resource with which I could trace the railroad right of way I was obsessed with at that time.

Hi there! Before down-classifying a through route, make sure you look at the entire route to verify your change in class! This road is a connector between Muanza and Chitengo, and was classified as Highway 218 before the civil war. I know it doesn't look like much, but it's definitely a tertiary! Thanks! :)

1. Based on many highly negative examples of communication I've dealt with here, that was definitely NOT venom. No that's not how I deal with issues usually - that was not a good example. But I at least did not personally INSULT you.
2. Not quite sure what that statement/insult is supposed to mean. My OCD-driven attention to detail is actually what keeps me from being a better validator. Your assertion is silly, at best.
3. I understand, and I will apologize again. I'm sorry.
4. Uh. Okay. Don't know what you've heard about people from the PNW, but it sounds like it's wrong. :p
5. Why thanks.

So what happened is that there are two separate projects for that grid area: One for bldgs, and one for roads/waterways. I forgot which one I was on, tried to save changes, and practically every single way I edited had already been changed.
I realized my mistake after I sent my message to you - I was on the bldgs project and not the roads/waterways. I assumed you had the corresponding area checked out in the other project. My bad - mea culpa ULTIMA culpa.

I actually mean it - have a nice day.
I truly hope this didn't ruin mapping for you - you sound very upset.

Disregard - there's a separate project for roads. Got it - sorry about that.

You can't just stomp over an active HOT project like that. I'm afraid I have to revert your changes

Hey there - thanks for mapping.
Please don't use DigitalGlobe imagery for this project. It is older than the Bing imagery in this area, so you are mapping some bldgs and roads that no longer exist. Questions gladly answered!

Hi there - you have created a river and corresponding relation for the Rio Maria, where the Rio Savane should be. Do you have info on the renaming of the river, or is this just a tributary that was accidentally extended too far? Thanks

Confirmed - DG-S imagery in this area is much more recent than Bing or DG-P

I went ahead and fixed it. Disregard.

Hi Koos - I assume you'll be removing the dupe ways from this changeset? Was about to do so, and saw that the change wasn't even 5 mins old.

Hi Quinten - just so you know, you don't want to name the riverbank relation. The waterway name goes onto the waterway=river way. You also don't want to name landuse=residential with the name of the town - that should be done with a point feature.
Hope that makes sense!

Hi there - fyi, you're not using Tertiary and Tertiary Link highways correctly. Tertiary ways should be for arterial routes between villages (or within towns) and should allow for 2-lane travel for 4-wheeled vehicles. Teriary Links connect a Tertiary way to a higher classed route - secondary or primary for instance. Hope that helps...

When ways are merged into reach other - one of the ways will show as "deleted". You can look at the history of way/61885684 (way/61885684/history) and see that all of the nodes actually show they are "part of way Pungwe River (680415942)"

69433892 over 6 years ago

It wasn't *actually* deleted - it was merged into way/680415942

Please don't create fake points of interest. Your additions are being deleted from the map. Please let me know if you have questions - thanks.

Hi Frans - thanks so much for your input. Unfortunately, OSM does not really allow for accurate mapping in the 3rd world - it is aligned solidly with mapping the first world, so I'm trying to map the realities on the ground with the iconography we have.
There is a class of "path" in sub-Saharan Africa where brush has been cleared to allow passage of a 4-wheeled vehicle, but since 4-w vehicles are scarce, the footpath traffic makes it appear that the highway is merely a path. When that path-road is access to and/or within a residential area, I'm trying to find a classification showing that the way resides somewhere in the locus between residential road, path, driveway and living street.
So I'm simply following Russ Deffner's lead: the preferred class for these roads is "service road", due to the way they are usually rendered. You are undoubtedly seeing a lot more service roads as you validate, and you'll be seeing even more in future.
On the second item, I don't actually do that - I connect all my paths going to residential clusters. It drives me nuts when people make highways to building clusters without having them join.
Thanks again for the input!
