The beautiful spring weather has finally reached the Mile High City after a fairly cold winter. I am sick of riding powder on my bike, it will be a nice change to get out there and ride for fun in the wonderful spring weather. I would like to start and finish mapping the major bike routes throughout downtown Denver. During this process, I can hopefully edit some of the street data as well.
I am currently having trouble understanding the full capabilities of OSM and how I can use the data. Is there a way to pull out individual layers from OSM data, bike paths, parks, parking, etc, and have them all in separate layers? I downloaded global mapper, but this only gives me the OSM file which is all one layer. I would really like to get students involved, but so far the amount of analysis has been very limited. It would be awesome to get students to contribute data they collect for school projects and so on, but right now the main focus is in the curriculum has been on shapefiles and rasters. I will spend the next few weeks investigating, but if anyone out there has any hints or ideas, please contact me.
I will keep you posted on my progress. Please contact me if you are in the area and would like to get some mapping done. DD
