Hello SK53, what a nice find, beautiful images too.

I like that you add solar panels of all sorts to the map. I have started similar activity which sadly has been dormant for some time. I did however manage to write down my approach in the wiki. Feel free to have a look: osm.wiki/User:ConsEbt/NorthernBeachesSolar

Celebrating the 500th MapComplete-contributor

thank you for sharing this. A new tool that I did not know before!

I do not know how not to care for quality

I have not read much in the forum or around this topic. I also assume you are a mapper on the ground in Panama.

Reading some of your comments on change sets as linked by Andy I would like to make the following comment for you to consider.

Approaching a new mapper is a great thing to do and has a big potential to make or break their engagement. Example: If I write a simple computer question into a forum and I get a very brief very technical answer that is way over my head then this will put me off.

e.g. ‘hi. what is your opinion on the conflict among this relation Cristóbal (11842011, v9) (which only has you among the authors) and the one produced with changeset/79875834?’

This could be seen as hard to understand for a new mapper.

A comment to a new mapper should be more ‘taking them by the hand’. Maybe include a greeting, an observation and a explanation why the observation requires a fix/change (plus link to wiki?).

Whitechurch, Co. Cork map update

Great effort!. Can you check the image on the top. For me it is not loading but I’m really curious to see the before/after effect.

The land of death

Hi there, I’m saddened to read this. Is this another case of reaching out too late when the frustration is already too high?

Unfortunately you give no further details as to why you are frustrated or how you tried to deals with ‘issues’. I also could not find any comments on your changesets of the last month.

In any case I encourage you to keep mapping and engage with others to find common ground.

10 years of OSM

Hi congratulations. Keep mapping and supporting OSM :-)

Making a simple textual change to the "switch2osm.org" site

This is great on many levels. Found already one thing I will ‘correct’ or enhance.

A simple survey and proposal about tagging cram schools

Hello, I suggest to also reach out on the Japan talk mailing list https://lists.openstreetmap.org/listinfo/talk-ja or the general tagging mailing list https://lists.openstreetmap.org/listinfo/tagging It is more likely you receive feedback on there.

Why we should care about googles scoped storage on Android

Are there plans to combine other use cases that struggle with the stream of bytes. Is there a potential to find a common, stronger voice among the android users to impress on google?

Juno opens its GPS traces to aid in mapping New York City

Hi, this is a great project and thanks for sharing it. Do the cars use GPS only or do they have a OBD II dongle as well? I heard from people who where using OSC with a car dongle had greatly improved tracking.

Changes to contributions without notice and agreement.

Hi Robert, I can only encourage you to firstly share the changeset numbers of the changes in question and reach out to the person who did the change as well as a mailing list.

While it is easy to write something into your diary it is not the most common place for interaction.

I would also like to pint out that while the option to contact people regarding their changes not all read the notifications or react to them.

In some cases changes made with local knowledge might not be obvious to others mapping from a far. If you are local and can verify the items in question are correct you should be in a position to argue for a revert. However if you dislike how certain features have been tagged I would encourage you to reach out and engage in the wiki/mailing list to foster a better common approach to map the feature in question.

Best of luck

Mapping with CalFire

This sounds great but I have a question. What are ‘hyper local maps’?

mapping photovoltaic solar panels in the Albuquerque area--2019

Hi Ed, I think the majority of people do tag them with lines or areas and not just a dot. Have a look at the wiki to find out more.

The Smallest Street in Porchester Gardens, Nottingham

Thank you for that indeed an enjoyable read. @Takuto where can I find these WW II photos?

OSM любить Mapillary

Thank you This looks like a good how to for adding GPS information to photos taken with action camera (e.g. GoPro). Unfortunately not the language I speak. I will use the google translation for now.

The history of the lanes-suffix is a history full of misunderstandings

A bit late but here are my 2ct worth. Keeping something broken just for backwards compatibility makes no sense to me. If - by now - it makes more sense to count all lanes (motorised and non motorised) the community should do it. It is also important to understand that while in some countries the bicycle lane might never been heard of while in others they are very popular and important aspect of the commute of many. Same applies to special bus or T2/T3 lanes…. all very country specific but the tagging should be able to handle it.

JOSM validation - what to do...

Thanks all, this was helping - relation saved!

discrepancy between high resolution bing satallite maps and OSM

There is a corresponding note/section in the wiki osm.wiki/Bing#Precision

I've read through a few of the comments and what I remember is
a) have a look at major roads and prominent points to check the miss alignment of the BING images
b) missalignment can be different in every zoom level!
c) in potlache 2 the BING images can me moved by holding down space and move the background (use major points in the area to check)
