The area you are amending to residential is already within an existing residential area. So the new area would not normally be needed and would be deleted/replaced with the new features. However as the new features have not yet been mapped and to avoid anyone re-mapping the tennis area from aerial imagery it might be better to mark the tennis area as disused. I have done this with tags :- disused:leisure=pitch
disused:name=Leigh Tennis Club
disused:sport=tennis. I also added a note explaining this.

I think this achieves what you wanted to do and it will show other mappers easily what has happened.

I don't suppose you are aware that OSM is a live worldwide database that is able to instantaneously change the characteristics of hundreds of folks maps. I hope you can realise that the live database is not the place to conduct tests. (Tests can be done off line on your PC without uploading anything).

Your changes did remove the names and reference numbers from some roads. I have reverted the changes so OSM is back to the original state, no harm done.

If you could explain what you wish to achieve perhaps I or a fellow mapper will be able to help. There's also plenty of guidance on OSM mapping on the net.

Hello, reference your recently mapped footpath River Ayr Way. I notice that there are several points at which it crosses over other highways with no connection to them. Also in places it duplicates existing ways.

Hi, Way: 393986133 is a footpath in part used by agriculture it is in the main trod out by feet, it's never been constructed as a footway. In fact for many years it was left obstructed by those responsible for the PRoW. It's actually only in the recent few years that a mark is made over the cross field section.
