I've had discussions with colleagues about adding topology for culverts.

The consensus here is that adding topology for culverts is a bad idea and brings no benefit to the road network. In fact it hinders editing of the road above the culvert.

Culverts should be treated as tunnels (the tag is tunnel=culvert after all) and the two ways should cross each other without connecting at the intersection point. Other assets like power and telecommunications conduits under the roadway do not have topological links to the surface either.

There are 4 culverts in all of Victoria that have topology with the trunk/motorway roads above it.

Thanks Andrew for the reply. I haven’t seen many culverts with topology to roads but I see your reasoning. It’s a mountain of potential changes. I’ll keep an eye on other culverts in my work.

Hi Ethan. Could you add more descriptive notes than "Added miscellaneous features", please? It makes it really hard to understand at a glance what you have changed. If you're working on racecourses, say so. If you're working on waterway/road crossings, say so. When I need to check one of your changesets, they all have the same title. Thanks!

Hi Andrew, what is the reasoning behind topologically joining the culvert to the Hume Freeway near Greta Road?

Perfect - I was looking for signage on Collingwood Street at Gale Street without success. Well done, and thank you.

None whatsoever. The DCS NSW Base Map only has "Baths" but if that's what they're known as locally, then go ahead!

The change from access=no to access=private was intended to solve a routing issue. We were attempting to route from the site to the Tasman Highway, but Valhalla was using inappropriate roads/tracks. Investigation showed all the internal roads with access=no were preventing any routing.

If the permissions need to be relaxed further, that's fine. We just need routing to be possible at all.

That the site is no longer a mill with port facilities makes our quest less relevant - thanks for the useful weblink!

Hi donmac703! There's a bit of discussion (started by me) over at https://community.openstreetmap.org/t/dam-or-embankment/122526/10 that I'd be keen to hear your opinion?

Hi jakecopp - I'm not a local unfortunately. I do know the alignment has changed with the hairpin removed (changeset/159640000) via Strava and Esri World Imagery . But I can't check the rest from here.

The amenity=hospital grounds has three facilities - Flinders Medical Centre, Flinders Private Hospital, and Flinders University School of Medicine. A new hospital building has been added to show the location of Flinders Private Hospital within the campus. The existing non-routable carpark has also been connected to the road network. Additional work needs to be done on the actual campus bounds.

This one had me confused for a while. I’ll update accordingly once I get a few more sources. Thanks fortera_au

Thanks AlexJevan! It's part of a much larger project that categorises roads around the country in an automated fashion. I was a little frustrated that port facilities didn't exist already, but that's the beauty of OSM. So glad others will benefit from the effort :-)

Hi mrpulley - I concur with your findings. DCS has 50km/h, Mapillary has 60km/h on the asphalt from Feb 2023. I have cross-checked other internal sources and can confirm that in August 2023 the speed limit painted on the road west of Walsh Lane is 60.

If the user is using "NSW Speed data", then an amount of caution is required. I don't use that data source internally as there are conflicting overlaps depending on which attributes are used. It is not always clear which attribute to use at any given location.

I've just seen you are part of TfNSW Connected Journeys Data Team - of course you've seen DCS. Comment withdrawn :-)

Hi MapCam - do you have "DCS Map Imagery" available in your list of imagery when editing in NSW? Generally, it is a higher resolution than Mapbox Satellite. Cheers, AntBurnett

And I promise it's true. I want it sorted as soon as possible because it is now impacting NSW projects. As of Fri 8/09/2023 2:48 PM, "-.- changed the status to Escalated." I have a fresh ticket number for the request and Aerometrex Support is ensuring the Account Manager responds promptly.

Hi GF - Metromap have escalated the priority to have it sorted out as soon as possible. "This may take some time but I will update you when they provide me any progress."

This was the only reason for my delay in updating you and others - seeking a timeline from Metromap.

Thank you, Graeme. We are now arranging for documentation on Metromap letterhead to confirm what has already been confirmed several times in email between my organisation and Metromap.

I've done a partial revert with the change to Young Airport (USA). Have asked for a review of the change.
