it had place=country, but you are right: it is not acceped by the others.

Open projects (like OSM) work best, if the majority of supporters agree on a common set of rules (or best practices). To write this down wiki.openstreetmap.org has been set up.
99.99% of wikipedia-tags follow it.
Today we have 770407 wiki-tags, and only some (<10) using full link.
If there is a full link, it decides to use http vs. https and m.wikipedia.org (mobile) vs. www.wikipedia.org (normal).
Of course you can do what you want, but the project would benefit most, if you copy-paste from the title (the bold text in browser) and not from its address-line.

Additionally: wikidata.org service was set up to translate between wikipedia languages, so you change is not really needed. Beside this: the number of people speaking english is higher than the number of users being able to read japanese wikipedia articles.

there is only 1 official name (e.g. Ortseingangsschild) which is typically in local language.

please do not remove the name-tag !
many tools require this and it is used worldwide!
the official name is name,
translations use name:lang,
name=*
