OpenStreetMap went viral! Well, sort of.

A recent Instagram video highlighted an area where Pokémon Go had better trail coverage than Google Maps. You can see for yourself:

As you probably know, Pokémon Go uses OSM for its map data. So it’s cool seeing it acknowledged that OSM data performed better, even if it was misguided as a compliment towards Pokémon Go/Niantic.

Working independently to help plot missing areas but conscious of the current geopolitical situation. Can anyone recommend if there’s any areas to be mapped out of urgency? For instance Texas with the current floods, Gaza or Ukraine etc for the humanitarian issues and destruction of war. I want my work to have as much positive impact and possible and consequentially don’t want to be plotting somewhere remote in say Africa for instance when actually somewhere else is in a much more urgent and desperate need. Tôi vừa hoàn thành một đợt cập nhật dữ liệu hành chính tỉnh Cao Bằng trên bản đồ OSM, dựa theo các nghị quyết chính thức của Quốc hội Việt Nam về việc sắp xếp lại các đơn vị hành chính cấp huyện và xã trong giai đoạn hiện đại.

🗂️ Tổng hợp quá trình sáp nhập: 2000–2019:

Tỉnh Cao Bằng duy trì 13 huyện và ~199 xã/phường/thị trấn.

Không có thay đổi lớn, chỉ có điều chỉnh nhỏ về địa giới hành chính, tên gọi.

2020:

Theo Nghị quyết 864/NQ-UBTVQH14 (10/01/2020):

Sáp nhập huyện Thông Nông vào huyện Hà Quảng

Giảm 38 xã, từ 199 còn 161 xã/phường/thị trấn

2025:

Theo Nghị quyết 1657/NQ-UBTVQH15 (16/06/2025) và Đề án 383/ĐA-CP (09/05/2025):

Tỉnh giảm còn 56 xã/phường (53 xã + 3 phường)

Các phường mới của TP Cao Bằng:

Thục Phán (gồm: Sông Hiến, Hợp Giang, Đề Thám, Hưng Đạo, Hoàng Tung)

Nùng Trí Cao (gồm: Ngọc Xuân, Vĩnh Quang, Sông Bằng)

Tân Giang (gồm: Tân Giang, Duyệt Trung, Hòa Chung, Chu Trinh, Lê Chung)

Nhiều xã mới được thành lập như: Quang Long, Nam Quang, Hưng Đạo, Yên Thổ, Sơn Lộ…

Từ 01/07/2025, mô hình chính quyền 2 cấp (tỉnh → xã/phường) chính thức áp dụng tại Cao Bằng.

Just completed an update of administrative boundaries for Cao Bang Province (Vietnam) in OpenStreetMap, based on official government resolutions about merging lower-level administrative units.

🗂️ Summary of the process: 2000–2019:

No major changes, only minor adjustments.

2020:

Under Resolution 864/NQ-UBTVQH14 (Jan 10, 2020):

Thong Nong District merged into Ha Quang District

OSM모임이나 협회 같은거 우리나라에도 있으면 좋겠다 바로 옆나라 일본도 있던데

Newborough has been fully micromapped, that includes: powerlines, street lights, street trees and underground fire hydrants. Roads have been edited and instead of basic lines, they now follow the center point of the road perfectly.

Seit dem Frühjahr 2020 gibt es in Deutschland ein neues Verkehrszeichen: den Grünpfeil nur für Radfahrende. Es erlaubt Radfahrenden, auch bei roter Ampel nach rechts abzubiegen. Ich habe mich gefragt, ob ich mit Hilfe von OpenStreetMap automatisch Stellen raussuchen kann, bei denen die Aufstellung so eines Zeichens sinnvoll wäre.

Wo sind solche Zeichen sinnvoll?

Wenn ich meine persönliche Erfahrung und die gesetzlichen Vorgaben (StVO, VwV-StVO) zusammennehme, ist der Grünpfeil für Radfahrende vor allem in dieser Situation sinnvoll: Wenn ich aus einer Wohnstraße komme (kein Radweg vorhanden) und rechts auf eine Straße einbiegen will, die einen abgetrennten Radweg hat. Da ich hier nur auf querenden Fuß- und Radverkehr achten muss, ist ein sicheres Abbiegen nach rechts auch bei rot in der Regel möglich.

Overpass-Query finden.

Ich will die Abfrage nicht zu kompliziert machen, aussortierne kann ich ja immer noch. Ich will also wissen, wo Ampeln auf Wohnstraßen stehen, bei denen im Umkreis von 10 Metern ein Radweg oder ein getrennter Rad-/Fußweg existiert.

Die gesuchten Merkmale lassen sich so in OSM-Tags fassen:

• Die Ampel ist ein node mit https://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Tag:highway=traffic_signals
• Sie liegt auf einer way mit https://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Tag:highway=residential
• In der Nähe (max. 10 m) existiert ein:
  • way mit https://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Tag:highway=cycleway

جبل مرغم علي التاريخي

يعد جبل مرغم علي أحد المعالم التاريخية والأثرية البارزة في قرية ضريبة العرش اليمنية، حيث يحمل بين صخوره آثارًا تعود إلى عهد الدولة الحميرية. يقع هذا الجبل في موقع استراتيجي، إذ كان يستخدم كحصن دفاعي لحماية قلعة الملك الحميري شمر يَهرعِش، التي تبعد عنه حوالي 9 كم في مدينة رداع. #### المعالم الأثرية رغم مرور الزمن، لا تزال بعض بقايا القلاع الحميرية قائمة على قمة الجبل، مما يدل على براعة الهندسة العسكرية في ذلك العصر. هذه القلاع كانت مبنية من الحجارة الصلبة، مما ساعدها على الصمود أمام عوامل الطبيعة لقرون طويلة. #### الموقع الجغرافي والطبيعة يتميز جبل مرغم علي بتضاريسه الوعرة وارتفاعه الذي يوفر إطلالة رائعة على المناطق المجاورة. كما أن موقعه يجعله نقطة جذب للباحثين في التاريخ والجغرافيا، حيث يمكن للزوار استكشاف بقايا التحصينات القديمة والاستمتاع بجمال الطبيعة المحيطة. #### أهمية الجبل في السياحة والتراث يعد هذا الجبل من المواقع التي يمكن أن تسهم في تنشيط السياحة التاريخية في اليمن، خاصة لمحبي الآثار والتاريخ القديم. فهو جزءًا من مسار سياحي يشمل قلعة شمر يَهرعِش وقرية موكل وغيرها من المواقع الحميرية في المنطقة

highway = bus_stop (heute notwendig oder veraltet)

Lange habe ich gedacht, dass dieses Tag durch PTV2 überflüssig werden wird, bis ist gemerkt habe dass es auch heute noch notwendig ist.

Das Tag “highway=bus_stop” (nur zulässig auf Knoten) ist nicht veraltet. Es ist notwendig damit die Bushaltestelle in vielen Karten dargestellt wird. Z.B.: auf der Standardkarte openstreetmap.org

Im Wiki steht auf der Seite Tag:highway=bus_stop in der Spalte “Verwendung” nur “Kompatibilität”. Die mehr als 10 Jahren von PTV2 haben aber gezeigt, dass das Tag weiterhin gebraucht wird.

Es müsste “verpflichtend” heißen. (Auf der englischen Seite heißt der Eintrag auch Required) Habe das im Jahr 2025 geändert, da kein Widerspruch kam.
