I have written a perl script which can fix a "braided" street in US TIGER data, as described at

osm.wiki/index.php/TIGER_fixup

It is a command-line tool which will download and fix the ways, and produce a file which you can open in JOSM to verify and upload.

You can find it at

http://svn.openstreetmap.org/applications/utils/filter/osm-unbraid/osm-unbraid.pl

Please give it a try and let me know how it works out.

Starting from a post on the talk-ie list about the old N7 in Limerick, I began picking through the data and remarking it as the R445. As I was going along, I noticed junctions with other roads, and thought I'd check them too. And then I checked what was attached to them...

In the end, the list below is what I updated:

∘ Fixed Old N7 to R445
∘ Fixed N20 route into city, still unsure within city (think it's okay)
∘ Added R509 (half of Childers Road)
∘ Added R510 (first half, suspect the other half is on the map, but not enough data to be sure)
∘ Added R526 (old N20) within Limerick
∘ Added R527 (old N24) within Limerick
∘ Corrected start of R463
∘ Added R857 (Ennis road)
∘ Added R858

Limerick still needs lots of work! If anybody is living down there (I don't) please, in particular, mark the one-way streets if you can. The Osmarender maps should update soon.

I drove from Brantford to Whitby on Tuesday evening via Hwy 24, Hwy 5, Hwy 8 and Hwy 5, then jumped on the 400s, all the way to Whitby. Then back to Hamilton, it was a nice drive, GPS humming all the way.

And last night I drew Limeridge and some parks around Hamilton, I'm thinking about starting in the Southwest corner of Hamilton and working my way Northeast. Those grids need to be done.

Check out Limeridge below.

Had some obscure rural areas to visit for work last night, so brought the GPS - I now have some unclassified roads around Attymass (would have the road out from Foxford, but the GPS memory wrapped), the road from the N59 at Ardagh to Moygownagh, the R315 most of the way to Ballycastle, the R316, a chunk of R312, and R317 to Newport.

Just wanted to say i've started editing for my area, tomorrow when driving around I shall my trusty gps on all day and see what streets i get, and then see if i can figure out how to add stuff, not just edit the wrong roads!

So far i'd added the road names to the roads in my area that before there were none :)

As i've stated before I work as a courier so most of the roads shall hopefully be added completly within the next few weeks, but I just want ask one question (as i'm not sure ware to ask questions, sorry for using the diary for this!)

What happens with postcodes? are postcodes used at all, can I add a tag on the road for the postcodes that I know?

And finally, I deliver to a lot of new housing estates that do not yet appear on any maps, even the 2008 ones! (at least i've looked on the navteq and teleatlas is it? and there not their, even tho they've been here for a good few years, but some upcoming new ones, and, oh yes, Is it possible to add 2 different road names? for example, most of the new housing estates thing its really cool to have an english and a welsh street name, now my sat nav only has one, and usually addresses are either, with no sort of order, maps only ever display one, can i add another tag under road name called 'alternative name' or perchance say one as 'native langauge' and the other as english road name?

Many thanks, I was actually thinking of trying to start something like this before i found it! (saved me many countless hours of frustration as i'm not a very good programmer..)
