Decided to go out for an evening walk yesterday as the weather was so nice.

Hiked up to Rusper where I saw what I believe to be a Sparrow Hawk or Hobby skimming over the top of the wood, looking for some tasty morsel no doubt.

Then walked back down towards Horsham via a number of footpaths I've never been on before; first towards Faygate and then down towards Horsham using more footpaths I've never used before. Lots of bluebells out, many different butterfly species spotted as well as lots of birds, including Yellowhammers, Partridges and also the first Swallow I have seen this year. The usual Tits, Sparrows, Thrushes, Blackbirds, Wrens and Finches were well represented too.

The usual obligatory, for the time of year, lambs were enjoying the lovely weather, as were the rabbits who were out in abundance.

All in all a glorious and refreshing walk to end a busy week; all 11 miles of it.

The municipality of Potchefstroom recently decided to rename many of the streets. The old names where completely unremarkable : The name of a river here, a plant name there, perhaps a couple of historical figures dating back to the 17th, 18th or 19th century.

The new names belong without exception to past and current members of the ruling ANC party. The town councilors must feel confident that these freedom fighters turned office bearers will not fall from grace like Kenneth Kaunda and Robert Mugabe. Neither do they see any need for balance, like honoring those who fought the system from within.

Many residents complain. One fought back by erecting a signpost on his own property bearing the old name. I considered various ways to reduce the amount of propaganda that I will upload to OSM and still make a good map. I finally decided to upload the street names exactly as I observed them and to write this diary entry instead.

I've updated a bunch of roads that were out of place or just wrong in and around the bridgend area, I accidently changed a couple of roads that i didn't mean to(but reverted them back to the originals! phew!)

half of broadlands housing estate is now mapped, well, at least a third anyways, most street names are listed in english and welsh (some streets are only welsh it seems, have a nice large photographic collection of street signs which i'm sure some people have been watching me in confusion as i take pictures of signs...I must admit I do feel silly but I can never remember how these welsh roads are spelt!)

got a tiny bit of my hometown pencoed mapped, the main strech of tondu is complete except maybe one or too little roads including an accurate map of a new housing estate, also added 2 industrial estates (still need to get all the street names, also started on nantgarw industrial estate), also i think i've pretty comprehensivly mapped M4 J35, (would appricate any feedback, I tried to do it as detailed as possible) think i spent way to long trying to get the junction just right, and the shopping centre just next to it.

chucks of sarn have been mapped, a start on aberkenfig, a big B road previously onmapped has also been added in the small costal town of southerdown :)

A friend of mine has also been getting along slowly but steadily on bridgend, mainly brackla, and the industrial estates around the area.

I've only been going a week, I'm hoping to finish off my town within the next few weeks, at least the side I deliver to anyway.

I hope no one minds but i've been fixing up alot of roads adding in dual carrigeways and trying to lay more accurate road layouts, had to shift one of the dual carrigeways completly as it seemed to drive straight thru a small town.

Today I made my first steps in editing objects in OSM. I selected some area in Stuttgart-Heslach that was not yet covered.

Because I have no GPS, I just wrote down street names and entered the data in Potlatch, using the underlying Yahoo orthophoto as a basis.

It's great fun and I hope that I could borrow a GPS device by someone and get some tracks recorded. At first, Potlatch was a bit unintuitive in usage but I got used to it. I think an easier to use editor could attrackt more people to this project.

My survey of some new roads in the Papendorp area has now been processed (thanks to @Tallguy for his tip about reusing the show overlay button in Potlatch!). Also, we went for a walk in the new park area in Leidsche Rijn Park and of course I surveyed the footpaths we walked. The area is not yet complete, but at least some of the paths that are already there are in OSM already.

I managed to flood my home town. If the little circle goes one way life is good if not, well we better give Noah a call. I just didn't catch my mistake before the rendering engine did. I guess I'll have to wait another week to see my updates. I was positive I hit that validate button before I hit the upload button, but a whole lot of water proves otherwise. I must have been inspire by all the flooding in the news lately.

After weeks of development and some brilliant testing, suggestions and help from a few good men (you know who you are) the first release version (v.1.2.3) of mom is now available for anyone to download and use. You can get it at the website, mom.poco.org.uk and give me your feedback, bug reports and suggestions at the wiki page, wiki.openstreetmap.org/index.php/Mom.

Enjoy!

Today, I'm currenlty uploading ways covering Quezon City, Metro Manila, Philippines. I believe I have covered almost 90% of the city.
The data came from an image map from the City government (with permission of course). I rectified the image and created a local wms
for JOSM. Most streets are unnamed and I hope local mappers would continue adding the names and other POIs.

cheers,
maning

I am in Dubai actually and due to the fast paced road construction everywhere the roads are changing very quick.
I found a former road in the map, drawn by somebody else which now does not exist anymore - another road has already constructed in this area.
In another area, a flyover the roads changed. How do I delete the green straight lanes crossing the blue road?
Please give me a clue. I started to join OSM recently and appreciate some help.

Looks like the wind farm has rendered on potlatch.

The proposed tag: power=generator; power_source=wind doesn't have any effect yet

osm.wiki/index.php/Proposed_features/Power_plants

Using man_made=power_wind works on mapnik

Neither are shown on osmarender layer - this would be quite useful, as you could see them without waiting a week for mapnik

I think the location might be this one?
